De Chirico Details

Surveys the style, inspiration, and works of the metaphysical painter De Chirico

Reviews

This book features a nice selection of 135 color reprints of De Cirico's paintings, representing his various periods. In the beginning there is about 14 pages of text, of the author discussing De Chrico, then there are the 135 illustrations. The text is written using very technical terms that I, as a complete newcomer to the world of art, found it very hard to follow. But I got the book for the paintings, and they look very nice. The only thing that i wish was different is that of the 135 paintings here, only about 31 are from De Chrico's most famous "Metaphysical Period." The book prints paintings covering De Chrico's whole life, but I wish they had included more of the Metaphysical paintings and less of the others. But the book does not pretend to be about his Metaphysical Period; it is a selection of paintings from throughout his life. The main thing is that the reprints look to be very good. I can't claim to have seen all the real paintings and know if the book's colors are very accurate, but just looking at the reprints, they look very nice to me.This is a very nice book :-)
